A reaction rarely starts at the loudest moment. A glance, a pause or a change in expression can explain why the shout or laugh matters. Fesi’s Trim & Share workflow lets you choose a shorter section of an existing reaction while retaining the source clip.

The goal is a clear beginning and ending, not the shortest possible file. This guide covers trimming captured reactions, rather than changing a live recording or replacing its background.

Watch the original before moving the controls

Open a reaction in your Library and play it once with sound. Identify three points: the first detail that makes the reaction understandable, the main expression or movement, and the moment when it resolves. Those points may not line up with the first and last audible sounds.

For example, a quiet look toward a friend can make a shared celebration understandable. Removing it may leave a loud but confusing clip. Conversely, several seconds of reaching toward the phone after the reaction ends may add little to the story.

Set the start, then the end

Open Trim & Share from the reaction’s options. Use the start control to remove footage before your chosen opening. Use the end control to remove footage after the reaction has finished. Keep the end after the start; Fesi requires a valid, nonempty selection before exporting.

Leave room for gestures as well as speech. A hand moving into the frame or a person standing up can continue after a sentence ends. Check the full movement before deciding that the ending is unnecessary.

Listen for unfinished words

Play the intended section and listen to its first and last words. Cutting through a syllable can make an otherwise clear edit feel abrupt. Move the boundary slightly if necessary, and listen again.

Trimming selects time from the recording. It does not recreate speech that was never captured or recover the start of a reaction outside the original file. If the original begins too late, keeping a little more of its available opening may help, but it cannot replace missing footage.

Check framing separately

The share workflow also offers output formats. Time selection and frame shape are different choices: trimming changes which moments appear, while reframing may crop the image. Choose the shape after you know which movement must remain visible.

See the reaction video aspect-ratio guide for the tradeoffs between original, portrait, square and landscape output.

Verify the output in its destination

Complete preparation and choose a save or sharing destination. Then open the resulting video there and check its beginning, ending and audio. A preview inside Fesi and a saved copy in another app are separate checkpoints.

This export workflow preserves the original reaction. A prepared share is not automatically a new permanent Library item, so deliberately save a copy if you want to keep the edit. You can return to the original and choose different boundaries later.

For a sequence of several moments, read how Fesi highlight reels work. If you only need to shorten one reaction, start with that single clip rather than preparing a larger reel.
